Walking Into Closed Cafés: A Short Story of Awkward Rage: A Six-Sentence Story

Published by

A cinematic, realistic scene of an angry older bald man leaving a coffee shop empty-handed, visibly frustrated and glancing back at the café entrance. He is not carrying a cup, bag, or any coffee. Urban coffee shop setting, expressive body language, natural lighting, editorial photography style.

Jonathan wished he had an internal clock that would tell him to stop before he did it, but he didn’t come with that feature in utero; when he was older, he never saw an aftermarket feature he could buy and have a surgeon implant one.

How often he walked into a coffee shop or restaurant, through an unlocked front door, only to be told the place was closed.

He didn’t know how many times, and how embarrassed he was, when the shop employee would inform him they were closed.

Why do establishments keep their doors open before they open and after they are closed?

If he were a violent man, he would knock the boxes out of the employee’s hands at Chocolate Fish, scream in the face of the waitress at Sanpino’s, and kick the step stool from under the guy taking pictures of a plate at Obo’.

Instead, he walked out of these establishments, almost certain people could see the steam rising from his bald head.
