Oakland is getting another baseball team. No, there has not been any talk
about Oakland getting an expansion team. Oakland is getting the Ballers. The
Oakland Ballers have obtained $2 million in initial funding from 50 investors
linked to Oakland and the wider East Bay region. In addition, ownership
will soon have a crowdsourcing site so that more people can own a piece of this new team.

The Pioneer Baseball League (PBL) has been a Mountain West region league since 1939. It has been an MLB affiliate league since 2021. The ten teams currently making up the PBL are in Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado. The Ballers, with another team located in Northern California that PBL will be announcing in January, will be a part of the newly formed Pacific West Division. What other teams will make up this division is unknown at this time.

Here’s the full press conference below.

Will I attend any of the games? Not sure. As I stated in a couple of the posts on the A’s move below, I have said when the A’s wear a jersey with “Las Vegas” on it I will know that all of the speculation saying, “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over,” will be swept away and I’ll burn all my A’s merch and start attending the local colleges and our AAA team’s games, which I hope to be doing more of starting next summer.

As for where exactly the B’s will play, Laney College is the announced site; however, the baseball park currently has no stands. There are plans to create bleachers for 3000 spectators. The college is only a block away from the Lake Merritt BART station.

More later as this story develops.
